Everyone in the community is invited to the free Community Dinner at 5:30pm on April 5th.

Can Can Sunday

 

Jan 2  ….we are so thankful for all of the support given to the food bank.  We are stocking the shelves and handing out the baskets.  While we really do appreciate and accept all food donations that are listed, we are running low on a few things:  jelly, cereal, pork & beans, and tuna & hamburger helper.  Please consider these items on your next grocery trip.  Food can be brought to worship and placed by the Altar on January 2 or dropped by the office.

The Christmas Cap ‘n Mitten Tree

The Women’s Ministry Bible Study group will be collecting stocking caps, gloves, underwear and socks to decorate the Christmas tree in the narthex.  The tree will be up for the whole month of December. All the items collected will be given to local school children.

IHN at HIGHLANDS LUTHERAN CHURCH

We have an opportunity again to serve the homeless staying at Highlands Lutheran on the evening of Christmas Day. If you feel a calling to share your blessings, it would be a great time to give a gift of dinner and your company to those in need this Christmas.  Many of the homeless are families with children.  If you are interested, please contact Chris Hanson.

SUPPORT OUR TROUPS!

We will be collecting items to send our soldiers a care package, as a testament of our support and appreciation for them.  Following is the list of items needed:  gum, chapstick, beef jerky, baby wipes, socks (heavy cotton), crystal light (individual serving packages), spice blends (food can be bland), and non perishable food items that do not require a can opener, i.e. vienna sausages, tuna, fruit cups, etc…  Also, we will collect travel size items for when they are away from base camps:  toothpaste, toothbrushes, foot powder, shampoo, dental floss, and pens. There will be a collection box marked in the Narthex through the month of November.  We will gratefully except any cash donations for postage to mail these packages to our soldiers.  Please make checks payable to Advent and clearly mark “soldier packages” on your check. If you have a family member or know someone in our military that could use one of these packages, please contact Becky Munoz via email at jbmunoz@msn.com or phone at 303-469-1356 .  We will need the soldier’s name and address to send them a package.

Interfaith Hospitality Network

A BIG thank you to Pastor Barb, Tonya Hanson and the youth: Paul, Bella, Michelle, Abby, Melissa, and Delaney, who served the homeless families at the IHN servant event on Saturday Sept 18th. The Youth made dinner, served, cleaned up, and spent time with 16 people in transition.  We have another opportunity to serve in December, please ask Chris Hanson or someone on the Social Outreach committee if you are interested or would like more information about helping with this important outreach.

Progress in the Pantry

Our Food Bank shelves are filling, but we have room for more and many in need.  Due to the overwhelming success of our last Can-Can Sunday, we have a second one planned for October 17.  Thank you for generously supporting our mission to serve!

Have-A-Heart Coat Drive

You can feel it in the morning, Old Man Winter is ready to put his chill on us.  Can you imagine what it would be like to have to face the winter without a coat?  Many do.  The Social Outreach team is organizing a winter coat drive in conjunction with the Have-a-Heart Project.  During the month of October, there will be a drop-off container in the narthex for your gently used coats and sweaters.  Please go through your closets and storage bins and find some items you no longer make use of.  Children sizes are especially needed.  Peace be with you, Social Outreach!

Can you Can Can Sunday?

Can Can Sunday June 6th – We appreciate everyone who has made donations to the food bank.  Please continue to show your support by remembering your donations even during the summer months. Food is welcome at anytime, but on Can Can Sunday we put your donated food in front of the alter as a gift given from our own blessings.

We will be hosting and serving dinner at Highlands Lutheran for IHN on Saturday June 26th.  Please consider hosting or donating food that’s used for lunches the week of June 20th.  The food items needed will be in the bulletin as it gets closer.  IHN is an opportunity to help families that are homeless, which unfortunately often includes children.

Thank you to everyone that turned in their Lent Boxes.  We raised $257.42 towards fighting World Hunger.
