In Holy Baptism we promise, along with the parents and sponsors, to teach the children the Lord’s Prayer, the Creed, and the Ten Commandments, and to place in their hands the holy scriptures, and nurture them in faith and prayer as we are empowered by God’s Spirit. As paraphrased from the Worship Hymnal; Rite of Holy baptism
With Sunday school fast approaching it is time for our Annual Planning Meeting to be held on Sunday August 21st right after the service. If you are interested in helping teach this year, are a parent interested in helping decide on the structure of the classes & the material used for teaching, or just interested in helping us plan, please join us. Agenda discussed will be:
1. How to seperate the classes 2. What material to use 3. How to structure the time with Opening & instruction. 4. Budget concerns; where will the funds come from? 5. ADD/ADHD what is it? And how can we best serve parents/children in our classrooms with it?
King Soopers Program Update/SCRIP card program update
The cards are reloadable. TIP: To save time, reload your card at the register BEFORE the cashier starts to scan your groceries. Advent recieves 5% each time you reload
With 70 cards in circulation, WE HAVE MADE $556.62 SO FAR!!!!
Iv’e had several colleagues tell me of their great success in raising funds through the SCRIP program. However, it does take awhile for people to get used to using it. Please help us to also make a successful program by remembering to order SCRIP cards for all your grocery, gas, prescription, gift-giving, clothes/household items buying, home-improvement-project-doing, and eating out that you & your family are doing!
Look for the youth wearing the fishing vests on Sunday morning for your SCRIP card needs. If there is a particular store that you would like us to have on hand please contact Tonya Hanson.
FUNDS RAISED FROM3/10 TO 7/18 ARE $306.67
Have you been flamingo-ed? Is there someone you would like to flamingo?
Along with a yard sign that states “This house has been lovingly flamingo-ed by Advent Lutheran Church” the recipient recieves the following letter:
Greetings!
We hope you are delighted to see the lovely flock of pink birds that landed in your yard last night! We are pleased to tell you that you have been lovingly flamingo-ed by:____________ & the youth group at Advent Lutheran Church Westminster. www.adventwestminster.org
Unfortunately, these beautiful creatures can’t stay long. They will linger on your lawn for just 24 hours before they fly away to delight some other unsuspecting home owner. If for some reason youa ren’t enjoying their visit, you can ask for them to fly away sooner. Just call Tonya Hanson at 303-456-9030.
You can also arrange for these fabulous birds to visit someone of your choice by making a $25 donation to the Advent Youth Group. Just call (303-456-9030) or text (303-912-0111) Tonya, and the Youth Group will make sure the splendid pink birds fly in under cover of darkness to beautify the lawn of your choice.
We hope you enjoy their visit! Advent Lutheran Church Youth Group
If you would like to help the youth group with this fundraiser, as well as play a great practical joke on a friend, family member, neighbor, or co-worker, contact one of the youth group to set up a date today!!!
Summer Mission Trip Reflection
As we concluded our 4 day service project during our Summer Mission Trip to Highlands Lutheran, I was so proud of our youth group and their presentation of the gospel during the sermon. Little did I know the impact it would have on one of their members. Below is an excerpt from the letter written to Pastor Liliana in response to the sermon that our kids gave.
“Dear Liliana,
While this letter comes a bit late, I wanted to share my reaction to the message those young preachers from Advent the Sunday before last. Each of them had a profound thought to share, and by combining several of their ideas, I was moved to alter my own interpretation of the Parable of the Sower and the Seed…..As one of those young people said, “God is the garden and we are the seeds.” Oh, my goodness!……… …Finally, the Parable of the Sower contains some reflective purposefulness in Christian thinking. Hats off to the wise ones of Advent for they have awakened us all from our sleep!….”
Once again, I am reminded how blessed I am to spend time with this amazing group of kids! Thank you for your support of the youth ministry that takes place here at Advent!!! B2U, Tonya Hanson
