THRIVENT UPDATE

Thrivent has sent out letters about how much money you have to designate to Advent or another qualifying charity, thru Thrivent Choice.
Please respond as Advent seeks to gain a fair amount of money. The Matching Funds no longer exist. The quilters are applying for funds
thru the Care Abounds in Communities. This is a hands on activity with LWR as the recipient. This program has been around for years and
we are aware many quilt groups have used it.
We are looking into a Thrivent representative coming to Advent. In order for Advent to stay abreast of the many programs we need to
establish some Advocates, preferably 4 and we would benefit $25 for each, per year. You could share the duties of attending meetings
at the Adams County Chapter, doing publicity, helping groups learn how to qualify for funds etc. The Chapter votes on how much money
you will receiver per event, so it is important we have a voice.
Maradith Goode-303-428-8917 and Vonda Crow 303-427-4257 attended an informational meeting on Thrivent Choice at the North Jeffco Chapter.
they will try to answer any questions for now. We have been attempting to get information on the Adams County Chapter meetings.
Jan Hurtt served as the contact person for many years here at Advent and has asked for someone to replace her many times, as she needed
to step down. She deserves a much needed break and we thank her for her years of
service. By Vonda Crow

The Advent Handbell Choir is still looking for ringers. You can pick high bells, low bells, or bells in between. No experience is necessary, and you don’t need to read music. We meet Wednesdays at 8 pm in the narthex.
Call Lisa Cook at 303-403-4081 for more information.
A New Roof for Advent
The property committee met in Sept. 9, 2010 in attendance were Al Muniz, Harry Swinhart, Fu Vayog (Representing the First Hmong Baptist Congregation) and Miquel A. Mendez (Representing the Seventh Day Adventist Congregation.)
A basic orientation was given to Fu and Miquel, whereas Harry and I introduced them to the church, a brief history of the church including a walk around, and talked about the projects we have in progress and the projects we foresee in the future. They were both very enthusiastic about getting involved and wanting to help out.
The roof project is moving along, we have received a check from the insurance company and work on the roof will begin as soon as possible.

THE QUILT PATCH

The Blessing of the Quilts will take place November 21. We are seeking funds from Thrivent’s Care Abounds in Communities Program,
with our hands on service activity. We are asking for this to help us with the cost of batting, material, sheets (for backs), thread
& tying cord for the quilts we make for Lutheran World Relief. Also, this will allow us to help with shipping cost to Project Comfort.
The Program Coordinator for Emergency Response at LWR traveled to Mauritania, a desert country on the western edge of the Sahara desert
in Africa. She was sitting in a very warm tent and was surprised when women thanked her for the warmth provided by LWR’s quilts.
The summertime temperatures there are very extreme from 110+ degrees down to 55 during the cool, dry season. For people who are
sick or malnourished, the young & elderly, a warm quilt gets them through the chilly desert nights.
We always appreciate the many donations of material. Find us in the Quilt Patch on the 1st & 3rd Wednesdays of the month starting at 9:30.

We have an opportunity again to serve the homeless staying at Highlands Lutheran on the evening of Christmas Day. If you feel a calling to share your blessings, it would be a great time to give a gift of dinner and your company to those in need this Christmas. Many of the homeless are families with children. If you are interested, please contact Chris Hanson.

SUPPORT OUR TROUPS!

We will be collecting items to send our soldiers a care package, as a testament of our support and appreciation for them. Following is the list of items needed: gum, chapstick, beef jerky, baby wipes, socks (heavy cotton), crystal light (individual serving packages), spice blends (food can be bland), and non perishable food items that do not require a can opener, i.e. vienna sausages, tuna, fruit cups, etc… Also, we will collect travel size items for when they are away from base camps: toothpaste, toothbrushes, foot powder, shampoo, dental floss, and pens. There will be a collection box marked in the Narthex through the month of November. We will gratefully except any cash donations for postage to mail these packages to our soldiers. Please make checks payable to Advent and clearly mark “soldier packages” on your check. If you have a family member or know someone in our military that could use one of these packages, please contact Becky Munoz via email at jbmunoz@msn.com or phone at 303-469-1356 . We will need the soldier’s name and address to send them a package.
